We love
kids at Cottage Hill Baptist
and we want to make a
difference in their lives
for Christ by letting them
know that God is with them
through good times and bad
times. We work with our
kids to help them grow
spiritually through Bible
studies, sword drills,
songs, and Bible story
dramas.
We have
an emphasis on missions and
serving others on Sunday
nights. Our Wednesday night
program focuses on hand-bell
choir, drama practices, and
prayer time. Sunday
mornings we have S.O.S.
which stands for Seeking Our
Savior.
S.O.S.
is a unique worship service
geared especially for
children. Kids get to
worship God with fun
Christian praise and worship
songs, that are fast paced
and feature great on screen
graphics and flashing stage
lights. During S.O.S. the
kids also have a Bible story
presented to them in a way
they can relate to it; we do
this by actually putting
them INTO the Bible story.
They dress up in period
costumes, climb aboard
various props, and even get
wet if the story allows!
All this action causes
something amazing – kids
that want to come to church,
kids that enjoy the Bible
stories, and kids that want
to learn more about Jesus!
So what is a typical
S.O.S. Worship Service like?
Well it
all starts during the Sunday
School hour on Sunday
morning, around 9:15am.
Kids
begin by singing songs such
as our S.O.S. theme song,
Jumping in the House of God,
Dive, Get Down, Holy of
Holies, Calling Down Fire,
and many more. After
worship songs are done we
review our Bible
memorization. We have a
Bible verse for every letter
of the alphabet and the kids
have created sign language
and motions to help them
remember each verse.
Next
comes a very competitive
time of Sword Drills. This
activity helps everyone get
more familiar with the books
of the Bible. The winner of
the sword drill is declared
as the “Ultimate Sword Drill
Champion” for the night.
After
sword drills we begin our
Bible story time, every
story is presented as an
object lesson or drama. A
recent example was the story
of the 10 Brides. 5 of them
were prepared for their
Bridegroom and 5 were not.
To demonstrate this we
handed out flashlights to
every kid and turned out the
lights in the room…only 5
flashlights had batteries,
the rest didn’t work. This
story demonstrates that we
must get ready now for
Christ’s return.
After
storytime we play a game or
activity that helps
re-emphasize the story.
Finally
we conclude or worship
service with refreshments
and prizes! Yes Prizes!
Throughout the service kids
can earn S.O.S. bucks, that
earn them for Bible
memorization, bringing a
friend, participating in the
story and songs, bringing
their Bible and if they are
caught doing something
right. The S.O.S. bucks can
then be redeemed for snacks
and prizes.
So,
are you ready for your kids
to learn more about God
while having fun? Then
bring them to S.O.S. on
Sunday mornings at Cottage
Hill Baptist.
